We offer uncomplicated, affordable editing options for authors, to help you tell your story your way. We specialize in fantasy, sci-fi, romance, and erotica, but we do consider other genres. We generally refer to The Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS) for editorial guidelines.

Proofreading
Proofreading is typically the final step before formatting your novel for publication, after editing and revisions have already been done.
When we proofread your manuscript, we’re looking out for typos of course, but we're also checking spelling, grammar, capitalization, punctuation, word usage, and inconsistencies, while bringing your novel in line with style guide preferences.

This will be changing to $0.018 per word starting on November 1, 2025

Copy Editing
A more in-depth process, copy editing looks for everything that proofreading does, but also tightens up the writing in your finished manuscript.
We will reorganize sentences for better flow, repair timeline and continuity problems, resolve any awkward phrasing and repetition, and make sure we know who's speaking in your dialogue. We'll also check for consistency in style, sentence structure, word choices, and the internal logic of your story.
We will do a copy edit, send it to you for review and approval, then we will proofread.

Developmental Editing
This is where we put the polish on your raw manuscript. Also known as line or content editing, developmental editing looks at improving your storyline, use of language, readability and flow, dialogue, descriptions, and character development. We're considering the tone of your novel, the pacing, and where you can "show" more and "tell" less.
Once we've made our extensive edits and notes, we'll send the manuscript back to you for approval and to make whatever changes you see fit. Then we do one final round of copy editing and proofreading to catch any last typos.
$0.043 per word
This will be changing to $0.053 per word starting on November 1, 2025
(If extra rounds of line edits and approval are needed, the rate is $49 per hour.)

Book Formatting
Formatting makes your book look like a book, and your proofed and edited manuscript needs to be formatted properly for publication, both for print and for e-book readers like Kindle and Nook.
Formatting gives you clean text blocks in a style that suits your novel, along with page numbers and headers, chapter headings, a table of contents, a copyright page, and any other front or back matter. For print, it includes setting the margins, gutter, and final trim size for the book.
This is also the time to add special elements like illustrations, decorative chapter headers and scene breaks, subheadings, and footnotes or endnotes.
You will receive a fully formatted Word document (DOCX), along with an EPUB file ready to upload to Barnes & Noble, Amazon, Apple Books, OverDrive, Kobo, Draft2Digital, Smashwords, Tolino, SCRIBD and other e-book publishers. You will also receive a fully formatted PDF ready to upload to KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing) or IngramSpark.
$49 per hour
(A typical book without illustrations takes 3–5 hours to format.)

Distribution Assistance
If you aren't familiar with the distribution processes, we are here to help! There are blogs and resources for figuring out how to do this for free, but if you don't want to learn it, or don't have time, we are here to help.
If you want to make your books available to bookstores and libraries but don't know what "publishing wide" means, this is a service you might need.
How it works:
You set up accounts with all of the book distributors we recommend. We will provide you with the list.
You give us the logins, then we upload your formatted books to the platforms and apply the proper settings for your distribution requirements. When we are done, you can change the passwords—your accounts remain yours alone.
We are not the publisher, you are! You retain all rights to your work and all royalties flow to whatever account you set up with the distributors.
$99 per hour
(Estimated 10 to 12 hours.)

Blurbs
Composing an engaging, effective book jacket blurb is an art. You want it to encapsulate enough of the plot to entice the reader, without giving too much away. It should also mention any relevant information about other books you may have written, and utilize Search Engine Optimization (SEO) terms to make your book more visible on the internet.
You'll get one full jacket-length blurb of 200 to 300 words and one shorter blurb of about 100 words for tighter spaces. We will send you a Book Blurb Info Form to describe your story, characters, and settings in detail, along with what elements you'd like emphasized—and which spoilers to leave out.
We do not read the full book for this service. The information sheet provides us with the correct details and flavor we need to create the blurb. Some authors want us to read their books to create the blurb, which we can do for an add-on of $175.
$99 for just the blurb
$274 with the add-on of reading the full book
Blurbs are included for clients who hire us for editing and formatting services.

Collaborative Book Coaching
Sometimes authors need an impartial and experienced person to offer feedback on a project, whether it's checking the direction of the story or just wanting to bounce off some ideas. This was never a service we expected to provide, but through our time doing this work have found that there is a need. If you are stuck in your narrative, struggle with structure, or wonder about character development, we can offer ongoing advice to help you move the manuscript forward.
